Mallikarjuna Temple Festival

Counting among the many festivals of the Hindus of Kerala the festival of, the Mallikarjuna Temple in Kasargod is one of the most important and significant festivals here. Mallikarjuna Temple is another temple in the heart of Kasargod Town and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The festival of the Mallikarjuna Temple is one of the principal festivals of the town of Kasargod in Kerala. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and follows the legend that says that the idol of Shiva was adorned by Arjuna.This festival in Kasargod attracts a large crowd who come from near and far to be a part of this auspicious occasion.The time for celebrating the Mallikarjuna Temple is in the month of March, and the celebration lasts for five days.

According to the mythological legends the temple is standing from seventeenth century and was built by the Ikkeri kings for facilitating worship to the warriors brought from Karnataka.For a long time the temple was completely neglected. In 1977, the site of the temple had to be shifted consequent on the acquisition of temple lands for the railway line. After this the important structures were re-constructed by the renovation committee of the temple management.The compound wall was constructed in 1985.The structures of the temple include sreekovil, namaskara mandapam, chuttambalam, valiya-balikkal and maryaada with arches which denotes and reminds Aruna and his skillful archery.

There are many modernizations are also done to this temple like some modern color paintings at the inner wall of valiyambalam, depicting figurines of Sree Sankaracharya, Lord Ayyappa, Lord Ganapathi, Lord Shiva and Goddess Durga.Mallikarjuna temple festival conducted yearly is the most famous and significant festivals here.The famous Yakshgana is performed here during the course of festivals.Yakshagana performances are common in the temple premises. The temple is located at the heart of the town near Taluk office. Mahalingeswara Temple. In this festival thousands of people gather here to seek blessings of Lord Shiva.
