Museums and Historical Monuments

  • Dutch Palace, Mattancherry– It is also known as Mattancherry Palace.The palace is one of the oldest Portuguese constructions that was built around 1555 AD as a present to the Raja of Kochi, Veera Kerala Varma. It is about 12 km Form Cochin. The palace depicts the unique architectural art of Portuguese of that time. It is a two-storied quadrangular building.
  • St. Francis Church– It was constructed by the Portuguese in 1503. Vasco da Gama the legendary explorer was previously buried here. His remains were shipped to Lisbon after 14 years but his gravestone is still there. It is the landmark of history and the architectures of church in India. It is located in the way to Fort Cochin.
  • Bolghatty Palace– Bolghatty Palace was built in 1744 by Dutch and is one of the oldest existing Dutch palaces. It is located on the Bolghatty Islands, in the Cochin city of Kerala. It is an the exclusive heritage hotel with world class amenities and wonderful holidaying options.
  • Hill Palace Museum– Museum is located about 12 km from Cochin city was the official residence of the Kochi Royal Family which was built in 1865. It was Kerala first heritage museum. The palace consist of 49 building in unique architectural style spread in an area of 52 acres. Some of the ancient paintings, murals, sculptures in stone and manuscripts, inscriptions, coins, are there on the exhibition.
  • The Pareekshit Thampuran Museum– This archeological museum is located in the Durbur Hall in Cochin where Rajas of Cochin used to assemble for their durbars. The museum consist antique objects of 19th century like paintings, coins, Mughul paintings, sculptures and many more.
  • Pallipuram Fort– The fort was built in 1503 and is the oldest existing European fort in India , it is located at the northern part of the Vypeen Islands. It is one of the heritage sites of Cochin its rich past attracts tourist heavily. The fort is also popularly known as ayikkotta and is in a hexagonal shape.
  • Museum Of Kerala History– The museum is located about 10km from Cochin in Aluva . The museum depicts the glorious history of Kerala state. Museum of Dolls and M.N.F Art and Sculpture Gallery are also situated adjacent to the museum.

Fort Cochin

  • Fort Cochin is located at the port city of Cochin. It shows the influence of European architecture tough it was was possessed by Portuguese, the Dutch and the British during different time interval.

Willington Island

  • Willington Island is a man made island that is spread over an area of 775 acres. It was named after the first viceroy of India Lord Willingdon and was built by Sir Robert Bristow. It offers beautiful views of backwater and there are many luxury hotels and resorts. It is headquarters of the Southern Naval Command.

Mangalavanam Bird Sancturay

Mangalavanam is a bird Sanctuary located in the reign of backwaters of Cochin and Arabian Sea. Its a famous place for tourists, bird lovers, ornithologists. It is a mangroove area with a tidal lake in the center. Various species of all around the world can be spotted here.

Pilgrimage

  • Jewish Synagogue, Mattancherry– The Jewish Synagogue was built in 1568 is a beautifully carved architecture and is a place of worship. The whole synagogue is covered with Chinese tiles and impressive Belgian chandeliers that attracts lots of tourist to this religious place. The Synagogue is open for public and tourists during 10 am to 12 noon and again from 3 pm to 5 pm every day except Saturdays.
  • Thirumala Devaswom Temple-Thirumala Devaswom Temple is a temple located in Mattancherry was built in 1599 is spread over an area of 5 acres. It is devotes to Lord Venkateswara. The temple have the brass bell which is second largest brass bell in Asia.
  • Dharmanath Desar Jain Mandir– It is located about 12 km from Cochin and is one of the oldest Jain temples in India. It is one of the major pilgrimage place for Jains. This temple is open for all communities.Pigeon feeding during noon, is one of the main rituals here.

Beach

  • Fort Cochin Beach – It is a famous tourist place fort Cochin beach is surrounded by coconut trees and green bushes .Fort Kochi is also located adjacent to it which makes it more famous place that must be visited. The beach is an ideal place for relaxing and sunbathe after a tiring journey in the city.
