Places to See in Idukki

Idukki the land of hill station is one of the most famous tourist destination of Kerala. It is one of the most nature rich areas of Kerala. High ranges and wooded valleys are girded by three main rivers – Periyar, Thalayar and Thodupuzhayar Idukki offers diverse attractions like Wildlife sanctuaries, Hill stations, Dams, Specie plantation tours, Mountain treks, Elephant rides etc. There are numerous fascinating places in Iduuki to visit , some of them are-

Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary– Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary is very beautiful natural place to visit in Idukki which extends over the Thodupuzha and Udumpanchola taluks of Idukki district spreading over 105 Sq. Km. at 450 – 748m above sea level. The Idukki reservoir formed by three dams-Cheruthoni, Idukki and Kulamavu-extends to 33 sq km.

Idukki Arch Dam– This is the world’s second and Asia’s first arch dam, constructed across the Kuravan and Kurathi hills.The dam lies close to the Cheruthoni barrage and has dimension of 550 ft. high and 650 ft. wide.

Hill View Park– This park is known for offering breathtaking view of high mountain peaks and is adjacent to Idukki Arch Dam and Cheruthony Dam. Spread over an area of 8 acres of land this aesthetically designed park has a natural water body at the hill top and pedal boating facility is available here.

Nadukani– It is great picnic spot and offers panoramic view of the a large area of the same and nearby districts.

Palkulamedu– It is a beautiful small hill station located located 3125 m above the sea level and offers view of Kochi, Alappuzha and other nearby towns .

Kalvarimount – This is famous Pilgrims center on the way to Kattappana.

Idukki have various famous Hill station of India and Kerala in its outskirts. Munnar, Kumily, Devikulam and many other hill stations are located nearby in Idukki District.Painavu is a great trekking spot , ideal place for adventurers.
