Kozhikode Excursions

Thikkoti Light House – Thikkoti Light House is located about 29 km from Kozhikode city. It is based at the massive rock in Moodadi coast.The light house is 34 meters in height and has a history behind its construction. The lighthouse was constructed in 1847 when a shipwreck happened near the rocky shores of the beach.

Thusharagiri– It is located about 50 km in Vythiri in Wayanad. It is densely covered with forest with rugged hills and is ideal place for trekking lovers. The forest is habitat to some of the exotic birds and animal species. Two rivers that originates from western ghats merges here top from Challipuzha.

Mahe– Mahe is an antiquated village having french flavor is located about 58 km from Kozhikode city. There is a school here which teaches dance, music, sculpting, yoga, and meditation. There is also a church St. Teresa’s Church, one of the oldest churches in the Malabar region.

Peruvannamuzhi Dam– Peruvannamuzhi Dam is located about 60 kms from Kozhikode city and is a famous picnic spot. The land around the dam is a bird sanctuary. Various facilities are available for tourists like speedboat and rowboat cruises.

Payyoli Beach– Loacated about 40 km from Kozhikode is an ideal beach for swimming. During November- December hrdes of the endangered Plive Ridley turtle come in to lay eggs.

Velliyamkallu– It is located about 36 km from Kozhikode on Payyoli beach , there is a massive rock , much dreaded by the navigators, has a beautiful natural engraving that are woth exploring. A one hour ride from the beach will take you to this place.

Iringal– It is located about 39 km from Kohzikode , it is the birth place of Kunjali Marakkar, who commanded the Zamorian’s fleet and held the Portuguese vessels at bay for long time period. Marikkar’s house has veen converted into a small museum.

Kakkayam Dam– A picturesque dam site teeming with exotic wildlife , Kakkayam offers excellent trekking and rock climbing opportunities. it is located about 45 Km from Kozhikode.

Sandbanks– Its a beach where the Kottakal river merges into the Arabian Sea, the view is stunningly beautiful and is the favorite spot for locals and tourists. The nearby Birla Bungalow offers a delightful view of the sandbank Beach.

Lokanarkavu– Featured in the Vadakkam Pattukal ballads of legendary warriors of North Kerala, the chief deity if the temple is Goddess Durga. The temple walls are adorned with magnificent murals and intricate carvings.
