Chimmony Wildlife sanctuary

Chimmony Wildlife sanctuary is a national park that is situated in the Mukundapuram Taluk of Thrissur District in Kerala. Chimmony Wildlife sanctuary was developed in the year of 1984.It is spread over an area of 85.067 sq.km. All kinds of flora found in rain forest are seen here.Chimoni wild life sanctuary got its name from the Chimony River flowing through it, which originates at the western slope of Nelliyampathi Hills.Punda peak is the highest peak around 1116 m spread within the Chimmony Wildlife sanctuary. journey through rocks and rivulets may at once appear challenging and exciting.There are Chimmony Dam which is built on the Chimmony river is dam-site to attract the tourist and provide water for plantation and for agriculture purpose.

Boating and trekking paths for the adventure traveller is provided in the sanctuary beside the Chimmony resorviours.Chimmony Wildlife sanctuary is open throughout the year respectively. But Most superior time to visit at Chimmony Wildlife sanctuary is between 1-Sep to 31-March.

Chimmony Wildlife sanctuary is a storehouse of biodiversity.The Evergreen trees like pali, punna, vediplavu, anjili, whitepine, kampakom, white akil, pathiri and nedunar, are seen in the upper part and trees like vetti, thetti, kara, narakom, marotti, mullilam etc are seen in the lower part.The Fauna diversity of wild Animals like leopard, tiger, elephant, bear, wild pigs, wild bison etc are in-habitat here.The Annual average rainfall is about 2980mm. There are around 110 different kinds of birds including 22 kinds of migratory birds.

There are 39 species of mammals, 25 species of reptiles, 14 species of amphibians, and 31 species of fishes are founded here.The forest area of the sanctuary is categorized into different form such as West Coast tropical evergreen forest, West Coast semi-evergreen forest and Southern Indian moist deciduous forest.Chimmony Wildlife Sanctuary is also notable for the rich butterfly population.

By Train: Thrissur Railway Station is the nearest railway station located 48kms away from this sanctuary

By Bus: Chimmony Wildlife Sanctuary can be reached by road from Amballur junction in NH-47 towards east at distance of 25kms and 45 km from Thrissur.

By Airport: Nedumbassery International Airport is the nearest airport located 60kms away from this sanctuary
