Cochin Carnival

Cochin Carnival is one of the most awaited festival of Cochin in Kerala State of India that is celebrated with great joy and energy.The last ten days of December are a period of celebrations and shows in Fort Kochi with Cochin carnival celebrated with grand fiestas, bike races and fire displays which seep into the New Year celebrations. The grand tropical tree near to the beach is adorned with lights of every color and size. The merry and joy is a continuation of the Portuguese new celebrations which were a part of this city centuries back. It has been conjectured that the Portuguese rulers greeted the New Year in a truly grand fashion. Absolutely dazzling ceremonial elegance and unparalleled splendor marked the parties and fiestas that were conducted by them so that they could celebrate to their heart’s content.

Cochin Carnival Celebration

This unique festival of Cochin Carnival is ethically based on five principles namely peace, progress, environment, participation and adventure. The Kochi Fort is decorated in such an attractive way that the viewer get mesmerized promptly. People gather in large groups in enthusiastically as they come here, clad in exotic colored clothes to add that special touch to this generous occasion.

Sports like Swimming in Sea, Beach Volley ball, Beach Football and Beach Bike Race make the Cochin carnival more interesting and amusing. Lots of prizes are awarded to the competition winners. On the New Year’s Day elephants are brought out on the roads and the tunes of the instrument known as ‘Panchavadyam’ vibrates throughout the city.
