Pazhaya Suriyani Pally

Pazhaya Suriyani Pally is an ancient Church in Chengannur about 1700 years old in Kerala State of India. Church depicts the combination of 18th Century Christian and Hindu temple architecture . The gates gopuravathil, nadapanthal of the churh have many carvings on it with also a Hanuman holding a baton which clearly shows the harmony between two religions.

The Church is famous for the Aval Nercha which is offering of sweetened rice flakes held on every Maundy Thursday, for the last four centuries.More than a thousand coconuts, 300 kg of rice flakes, 200 kg of jaggery, and spices go into the preparation of the aval.

The church is located about 117 km from Thiruvananthapuram in Alappuzha District of Kerala.

Chengannur Railway Station is the nearest station here while Trivandrum International Airport is about 119 Km from here. After Reaching Chengannur one can easily reach the church . Many bus services are there from Alleppey to this town .
