Neyyar Dam

Neyyar Dam is one of the most famous picnic spot in Thiruvananthapuram District of Kerala India. It is a gravity dam built on Neyyar River on the foot of western ghats. The Neyyar Dam was built in the land given by a famous landlord Karuvachi Krishnan Panicker, Maruthinmoottil, Kallikkad and some of his family members from Kallikkad.It was established on 1958 and is a hotspot place for picnic which attracts lots of local and toursit here.

The Neyyar Dam is a concrete gravity-type with a height of 56 m (184 ft) and length of 294 m (965 ft).Veeranakavu Sreedharma Shastha temple and the Mangara Muttom Siva temple are also located near Neyyar Dam.

Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary is aldo located adjacent to it so coming to Neyyar Dam one can see gaur, sloth bear, Nilgiri Tahr, jungle cat and Nilgiri langur, wild elephants and sambar deer. Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Dhanwanthari Ashram is also located in the vicinity of Neyyar Dam. Baoting facility are also available at Rs 100 to 150 per head .
