Thekkady

Thekkady is a small place in Periyar national park located in Idukki District of Kerala India.Thekkady is enchanting as the road winds through tranquil countryside, rich plantations & thick jungles.The sanctuary, 60 km from Idukki,190 km from Cochin and 114 km away from Kottayam is open throughout the year, but the best season for a visit is from September to March. The sanctuary is centered around the large (24 sq km) artificial lake formed by a dam across the Periyar river. It is one of the famous holiday destinations in India.

Thekkady is considered a heaven for natural spices such as black pepper, cardamom, cinnamon and clove.Periyar National park is a famous tourist destination of Kerala. The national park offers various fascinating places that are enjoyed by tourists.The splendid artificial lake formed by the Mullaperiyar Dam across the Periyar River adds to the charm of the park. The greatest attraction of Periyar are the herds of wild elephants that come down to play in the lake.Sanctuary can be accessed through a nature walk, boating or jeep safari.
