Cherthala

Cherthala is a little quaint town in the Indian state of Kerala.The town is located in the Alappuzha district in Kerala, halfway between the cities of Kochi and Alappuzha. The town of Cherthala is famous for its rich and bustling temple culture.Cherthala is home to famous Devi Karthyayani Temple. According to legends, Vilwamangalam Swamiyar – the well known saint consecrated Devi idol in the temple centuries years ago.There are many other prominent temples in the region of Cherthala, thus making it an important destination for pilgrims and tourist alike.

Some of the other temples are in Cherthala are Muttathu Thirumala Devaswam Temple dedicated to Lord Narasimha, Shree Mahadeva Temple and Sri Lakshminarayan Temple half-kilometer away of the town. You can also visit the St. Mary’s Church which lies near the market that are of both religious and historical importance, including Augustine Church and St. Andrues Baslica Church.

This small town has become a major center of coir industry locating many industries outside it. Cherthala is also home to two Indian union ministers A K Antony and Vayalar Ravi.Town also hosts a mega water supply project in collaboration with Japan Water Supply Scheme. The water source of the Cherthala project area is Muvvatupuzha River at Kulampoorkadavu.The town is home to many prestigious institutions.

Cherthala Weather and Best Time to Visit

Being a coastal area, Cherthala is humid all through the year. Summer season experiences a hot temperature and it is always better to avoid these days.The best time visit the place is between October to March.
