Bathery Jain Temple

Bathery Jain Temple is one of the most popular temple for Jain religious in Kerala.The temple is dedicated to Ananthanatha Swami, a famous saint. Bathery Jain temple is the most important place with Jain ruins, in Kerala. It is located 24 kilometers away from Kalpetta and 12 kilometers away from Sultan Bathery.It is resided at Attitude of 700 – 2100 m Above Sea Level in Wayanand District Kerala.It is served as a Hindu shrine an important center for commercial activity.Apart from this temple there are other significant Jain remnants in Wayanad. The temples at Punchavayal and Puthenangadi are the best known .

History & Architecture

It is believed to have been constructed around the 13th century.Tippu Sultan used this temple as his Battery for his army and hence it is also known as Tippu’s fort. During Tipu Sulthans invasion in the 18th century an imposing fort was built here but unfortunately no remains of it stand today.Sultan Bathery is an ancient historical place The history of Bathery has linked with Wayanad.The wayanad history started before 3000 years ago when early man was started. Chroniclers believe that the area was occupied by people. Here crist and unforgettable Tiger of Mysore Tipu Sultan Innumerable evidences have been found.
There is an interesting reason behind this name being given to Ananthanatha swami temple.
Another name given to this Jain temple is Sultan’s battery.

The Architecture Style of temple is ancient and Unique style of Keralite architecture.This temple is an excellent piece of Jain architecture.The architecture of the temple has strong influences of the then Vijayanagar architectural style and it is made wholly of granite. The walls and interiors of shrine are adorned with the intricate stone carvings made in the one of the traditional styles. Jain temple Wayanad is an important tourist spot for Jains and multi cultural guests. There are many Occasion celebrated in temple every year respectively.Large no of devotees come to visit the temple for worship of Jain god.

By Bus: Sulthan Bathery is 12km away from the temple well connected and easily accessible by road.
