Parichamuttu Dance

Parichamuttu is an old Kerala folk dance performed by Christians of Kerala India. It is closely related to the the martial art form of kalaripayattu.It is performed both in Travancore and Malabar areas.

Parichamuttu Elements

In Parichamuttu artists hold shields and swords and dance around a large five-wick lighted oil lamp. This dance has a connection with the oldest martial art form and is believed to be older than the famous martial art of Kerala known as Kalarippayattu. The artists along with the songs performs somersaults in the air, spinning around and clanging the shields together while dancing around in tune with the background singing.
