The Department also conducts awareness programme for the public on land and water related resources. Department also caters to Remote Sensing and GIS needs of line departments.The Planning and Economic Affairs Department is a secretariat department. This department has administrative control over three line departments: (a)Department of Economics and Statistics (b) Kerala State Land Use Board (c) State Planning Board.The Directorate of Economics & Statistics, Government of Kerala is the nodal agency for collection, compilation, analysis of statistics relating to various sectors of Kerala Economy.Major Divisions relate to Agriculture, Economic Census, ASI, IIP, Labour, Housing, NSS, VS, Sample Registration, Prices, State Income, Computer Division.
Planning & Economic Affairs Department Organization:
Kerala State Land Use Board was established in 1975 under Department of Planning and Economic Affairs, Government of Kerala.The Board has been declared as a State Government Department during 2007 as per G.O. (MS) No. 3/2007/Plg.The State Land Use Board (LUB) is actively involved in conducting studies on the judicious use of land, collection of micro level data on the existing land use, land resources, land degradation, undertaking inventories and studies on natural resources. The Kerala State Land Use Board in collaboration with the National Land Use and Conservation Board, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India celebrate a national resources conservation week each year during Nov 14-20. Natural resources conservation Awards are given to best Municipalities and Panchayats for their activities in the conservation of the natural resources. Three Regional Seminars are organized every year.Kerala State Planning Board was first constituted in this State in September 1967 with Chief Minister as Chairman and a non-official as part time Vice-Chairman.
Notable Function of Planning & Economic Affairs Department :
- Collect and collate data on land resources and land use.
- Undertake surveys on current land resources conservation and management and land use.
- Initiate studies on appropriate land use management and related aspects.
- Recommend appropriate policy framework to help the Government to arrive at correct decisions on land.
- To administer and co-ordinate for implementation of the decisions of Govt. related to land use without displacing the existing agencies.
