Chalakudy is a an important destination for tourist and important to all nature lovers as it is richly blessed with natural beauty. Chalakuddy is the only approach town towards Athirappilly Falls and Vazhachal Falls. The trekking paths in Chalakudy to high ranges of Western Ghat are wonderful experience. The nature’s beauty and freshness can be experienced by the trekkers. Most of the trekking paths are already explored paths so there are no sudden hurdles or danger from wild animals. There is lot of things to do in this small town and around it.

Trekking

  • Many private travel agencies, NCC and NSS conduct trekking camps at the base hill station of Chalakudy during the non-rainy season in this region. There are some local trekking clubs in Chalakudy that conducts annual trekking expedition for the native and foreign tourist. It is suggested by the tourism authorities to book in advance for trekking expedition as there are only limited intakes in each group.
  • Jungle Safari and WildlifeParambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Chittur taluk in the Palakkad district of the state of Kerala. This place is few kilometers from Chalakudy. This particular sanctuary is the permanent home for four indigenious tribal population known as Mala Malasar, Muduvar, Malasar and Kadar.

Rivers and Dams

  • Chalakudy River– The fourth longest river in Kerala is Chalakudy River or Chalakudy Puzha. The Hindu religious people feel that having a dip in this river is very holy during the auspicious days.
  • Sholayar Dam-Sholayar Dam is also known as Upper Solaiyar or Upper Sholayar Dam. Boating facility are available here. You can go for picnic here in amidst of Nature.
  • Waterfalls– The famous waterfalls of Kerala, Athirappilly Falls and Vazhachal Falls are situated near Chalakudy in the Chalakudy River. The native and foreign tourist can spot endangered Hornbill species which is only found in this portion of the Western Ghats.

  • Visit TempleKannambuzha Devi temple is situated some 3 km away from the Chalakkudy Railway station.
