Irinjalakuda

Irinjalakuda is a town located in Thrissur district in the state of Kerala in South India.This particular town is locally nicknamed as Varadanangalude Nadu.The town derived its name Irinjalakuda from "Iru" and "Chaal" in Malayalam language means two streams.Another version, by local legend, say “Koodal” means merger or two rivers merging and “Irinjal” means bonded two so the name origin as Irinjalakuda. The two important streams that join in this town are Kudapuzha and Kurmalipuzha. These are the tributaries river of Chalakudypuzha. At present, there is no such river in the said town and it remains as the Myth of rivers.

The town well connects by the network of road and railway system. Irinjalakuda was the first sub-district in Kerala to be announced as 100 per cent computer-literate. Irinjalakuda has strong legacy in traditional classical art forms of Kerala especially performing arts.

Weather and Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Irinjalakuda by the native and foreign tourist throughout the year. The summer season is pleasant and slightly hot. During the rainy season, there is a heavy downpour in this region. Sometimes this area faces flash floods during heavy rains. The small rivers overflow during the month of June to September. Those who enjoy rainy season can visit this place as it is apt time.
