Marthoma Smruthi Tharangam or a Muziris heritage Site is located along the bank of River Periyar about 6 km from Kodungalloor in Azhikode Village of Kerala. This church is dedicated to the life of St. Thomas and sprawls over an area of 3500 square feet which is beautifully designed in Indo-Persian style of architecture.
It is believed that St Thomas one of the 12 disciples of Jesus Christ landed first here at Kodungallor and established seven churches in Kerala among which the church situated at Kodungallor was the first one. This church have well preserved the bone of the right arm of the apostle from Ortona in Italy which was brought here as a gift from Roman to St.Thomas Christians in Kerala. Marthoma Smruthi Tharangam church preserved the holy relic of St.Thomas in a glass case and is showcased daily between 9am -6pm. The shrine attracts devotees from all around the world.
