Kottakkal located in Malappuram is the home of the famed Kottakkal Arya Vaidyasala, one of the pioneer institutions of Ayurveda in India. Ayurveda, Indian’s unique science of life and medicine, has a major role in attracting tourists to Kerala. Ayurveda- Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala sprawling medical center, spread over 800 acres houses a Viswambhara temple, centers for preparing medicines, sales counters, free treatment centers, medicinal gardens and facilities for research.Kottakkal is also the abode of art and culture.

Kottakkal Pooram festival – Celebrated in the months of March or April in Vishwambara Temple for seven days. The festival is celebrated to honor Dhanvantari, who is the patron god of medicine and health. During the celebration, cultural programs by famous classical artists are also organized in the temple premises.
