Kovalam is extremely popular among westerners due to shallow waters and low tidal waves.Kovalam has 3 major beaches in its 17 km coastline ,It is a beautiful and picturesque tourist spot and tourists flock all year long .The Samudra Beach, Kovalam Beach, Hawa Beach and the light house beach are what gives Kovalam its beauty. Kovalam is also famous for its Ayurvedic massages and many yoga resorts.

Palaces and FortsKoyikkal Palace was the official residence of the of the rulers of the erstwhile State of Travancore. This ancient palace, located 18 km from Thiruvananthapuram on the way to Ponmudi hill station.Kaudiar Palace is the home of the late Maharaja Sree Chitra Thirunal Bala Rama Varma and his family. The view of the grand old building from the gate is excellent, but unfortunately it is off limits to the public.

MuseumsNapier Museum contains a fine collection of Kerala’s bronzes, ornaments and costumes, and a model of "Tharawad’-the traditional Nair family home. Kuthiramalika Palace Museum is a classic specimen of Kerala Architecture is situated in ‘Kuthiramalika’. The palace, with its excellent carvings and amazing architectural designs, is by itself a slice of heritage.

BeachesLighthouse Beach known for its 35 metre high lighthouse which towers over it atop Kurumkal hillock. Shankhumugham Beach is a favorite haunt of sunset watchers. The beach is adjacent to the Thiruvananthapuram Airport and Veli Tourist Village.

Tourist Villages-It is a seemingly placid sheet of water that backed away from the visibility reverberant sea offers a general idea of the famous backwaters of Kerala. Located near the airport this popular picnic spot offers landscaped gardens and water-sports facilities.Pedal boats, rowboats, and motored boats are available.Children in particular have a lot of fun and frolic climbing over the huge sculptures, which dot the landscape, and riding a ferry.

Surfing-You can hire surf boards and body boards on the beach from $6USD a day. Try surfing in waves of Arabian sea which comes from time to time (0.5 – 2 meters) high. take lifegurad precautions also.

Wooden Boat Ride- Kovalam’ s Main Beach/Leela Beach you can go out on the ocean with a traditional Catamaran. These ancient boats are rowed with a bamboo paddle and maneuvered by experienced local fishermen.

Motor Boat Ride- Beaches in Kovalam have motor boating facility. You can enjoy the boating in Arabian sea here.

Catamaran Ride – The ride also offers you a chance to see mussel harvesters who drive into the Shallow Waters near the rocky headlands and come up with handfuls of Shelfish .

Water Sports – an adventures sports lover will rarely find time to stay idle in kovalam . The Beaches here provide you with water sporting options like wind Surfing , Rafting , Sailing and Power Boating.

Walk the Sea Wall – Venture along the long rocky Barricade Separating the sea from the land at the Samudra Beach Reached by a Detour past Kovalam Juction . Although There is hardly any beach here at high tide , it is an awesome sight to see the huge waves crash on the rocks below you
