Pakshipathalam

Pakshipathalam lying in famous Brahmagiri hills of Western ghats is at an altitude of 1740 meters above sea is a beautiful hill with lush greenery and full of nature all around it. Pakshipathalam is famous for its peaceful and breathtaking serenity it provides to the tourist and the adventures trek within the dense forests of the hill station. Name Pakshipathalam means the land of Birds, you can spot various exotic birds here. It is a famous trekking spot in Kerala. Pakshipathalam can only reached via trek. Buses are available upto Thirunelli Temple. The Garudan Kavu (a small projection in form of an eagle) and Bhuthathan Kavu are also major attractions of this place.

Pakshipathalam is generally a Bird Sanctuary located in Wayanad District of Kerala at about 7 Km from Thirunelli and 32 Km from Mananthavady . Thirunelli Temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu also called as Kassi of South is also located in the nearby Hills. Pakshipathalam has a cave that is said to have been used by rishis in ancient times. Kuruvadweep island a 950 acre stretch of evergreen forests located near to Pakshipathalam is close to the banks of Kabani River.This evergreen forest is home to rare species of orchids, birds, and herbs.

How to reach Pakshipathalam

By TrainVadakara Railway Station is located about 103 km from Thirunelli and Thalassery Railway Station about 110 km from here.

By Road– Pakshipathalam can be reached via trekking only there is no other mode. Buses are available till Thirunelli temple form there you have to walk . There are various bus services to this famous temple of Kerala . Buses from nearby states are also available as it is a trekkers paradise.

By AirwaysCalicut International Airport is located about 140 Km from Thirunelli.
