Palakkad a city located in the center of Kerala is known for its historical background. It is located at the foot of Western Ghats on the border of Kerala hence offers various tourist attractions. Palakkad is surrounded by mountains, forests and fertile valleys, rivers and mountains streams. There are various places to visit in the city , archaelogical sites, temples, wildlife, shopping places and many more. Some of the famous place to visit are –
Tipus Fort – It is also known as Palakkad fort is under Archaeological Survey of India. The fort was built by the Hyder Ali, Tipu Sultan father in 1776. The fort also contains auditorium and a small museum. It is located in the center of the city just 5 km from the palakkad railway station.
Jain Temple,Jainmedu – The temple is about 3 Km from Palakkad along the banks of the Kalpathy river. The temple is 500 years old and 32 feet long, 20 feet wide made of granite stone. The temple is open from 7 to 10.30 am and later from 5 to 7 pm.
Vadakkanthara Temple– Vadakkanthara Bhagavathy Temple is one of the most famous temple of Palakkad which is dedicated to Goddess Kanaki.
Manapullikavu– It is also one of the important temples of Palakkad and is believed to be 1200 years old. The Vela Festival is the main festival of the temple. Manapullikaavu temple is open for devotees and tourists between 6 to 10.30 am and 5 to 7 pm.
Malampuzha Garden– Malampuzha Garden is a complete garden located about 14 km from Palakkad and offers something to every type of visitor. It has ose garden with 100 species of roses, a snake park, a ropeway ride, fancy park with 20 rides, KTDC Garden House offering pedal boats, motor boats, row-boats and water scooters.
Thiruvalathoor – Thiruvalathoor is famous for as Shiva temple which is believed to be built in one night. The interiors of the temple is made up of wooden work and stone sculptures. The temple open during 6 am – 12 pm and 5 pm – 7:30 pm.
