Kappad Beach

Kappad beach also known as Kappakkadavu is a famous beach of Kerala with a great historical significance .Vasco De Gama the legendary explorer landed and discovered the route to India on 27th of May, 1498 in this beach only. it is located about 16 km from Kozhikode city. Kappad beach is one of the most charming beaches of Kerala. This pleasant beach is rugged with rocks offers a great landscape to view.There is a 800 years old temple also near the beach which adds tourist to this fascinating beach of beauty. After so many years also this beach has maintained its beauty and charm and attracts tourist from allover the world.

Kappad Beach History

Portuguese navigator Vasco da Gama (1460-1524) with 170 men sailed in and stepped into Kerala from these beach only. It was the spices and wealth of Malabar that first brought the Arabs, the Phoenicans, the Greeks, the Romans, the Portuguese, the Dutch and the English to Kerala.

Kappad beach is the major tourist attraction in Kozhikode , hence there are many resorts and hotels nearby the beach with all necessary amenities. Kappad Beach has many more tourist attraction nearby it some of them are Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary , Science Planetarium, Pazhassirajah Museum and Art Gallery and many more.

Hopw to Reach Kappad Beach

By AirCalicut International Airport is located about 23 km from Kozhikode City.

By Train– Kozhikode has a Railway Station which is nearest to the beach about 16 km from th Kappad Beach.

By Road– Kappad beach can be reached via Kozhikode easily. Kozhikode city has a good road network with other cities of Kerala.
