About Silent Valley National Park Information Timing Location is located 40 km From Mannarkkad, in the Nilgiri Hills, Palakkad district in State of Kerala in India. The Silent Valley National Park was established in 26 December 1980. It spread over an area of about 77 Sq. km.The most superior time to visit at Silent National Park in between the month of September to March.The Silent Valley National Park is also known as Sairandhrivanam in local language which literally means “the forest in the valley.

The Silent Valley National Park is a unique preserve of natural rainforests. Silent Valley National Park is one of the most protected parks in our country.In the Year 1888 Silent National Park was stated as a reserved site under the Forest Act and in 1914 it was declared as a Reserved Forest by the Government of Madras in 1914.A perennial river named Kunthipuzha is passing through the western side of the park that is flowing from north to south in direction. The annual Heaviest rainfall is during the month of June, July and August per year respectively.

The Silent Valley is a veritable treasure house and a gene pool of tropical flora and fauna .The Fauna of the park including 34 species of mammals,292 species of birds, 31 species of reptiles, 22 species of amphibians, 13 species of fishes, 500 species of butterflies and moths are in-habitat within the Silent Valley National Park. The Majority of the different kinds of plants is seen at the western ghat.There are twelve forest categories are found in the Silent Valley National Park.The Biodiversity of flora of the valley include about a 1000 species of flowering plants, 107 species of orchids, 100 ferns and fern allies, 200 liverworts, 75 lichens and about 200 algae within the

How to Reach Silent Valley National Park

By Train: Thrissur Railway Station is about 24 km and Coimbatore Railway Station is about 55 km and Palakkad Junction is 60km are the nearest railway stations for reaching the park

By Bus: Regular buses are available from Palakkad about 80km to Mukkali.Bus transport is only up to Mukkali, nearly 23 km from the park

By Airport: Coimbatore Airport is about 55 km and Kochi Airport is about 135km and Calicut Airport is about 80km from the Silent Valley National Park.
