Thekkady, close to the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border is a feast for the eyes and soul. The sanctuary is situated around the large (24 sq km) artificial lake formed by a dam across the Periyar River.Elephants are seen frequently in the artificial lake formed by the Mullaperiyar dam in the Periyar National Park, with its dense vegetation is also home to herds of deer, tigers, lion tailed Macaques, and NilgiriLangurs. A boat ride in the lake and walkabout through the jungle almost guarantee sightings of wildlife.

By Train: Ernakulam (Cochin) is the nearest railway station and Thekkady is about 3 hours’ drive away.
By Air: The nearest airport is Cochin International Airport (195 km).
