Chengannur

Chengannur is a municipal town situated in the district of Alappuzha in the state of Kerala in South India. It is locally spelled as Chengannoor, Chenganur and Chenganoor. This town lies in the Alappuzha district’s extreme eastern part.This town is well connected by National highway no-220 that links Kottayam and Kollam which are the neighboring districts of Alappuzha.This town is also regarded as one of the major Sabarimala pilgrim’s destination to proceed towards the Ayyappa temple in the hill range. Changannur is popular for its Shiva temple named as Chengannur Mahadeva Kshetram.There is also an Old Syrian Church in this town.During the British period, Cardamom which is known popularly and called as Black Gold was a major commercial export product of Chengannur.
