  • The Krishnapuram Palace – It was built in the 18th century and now functions as a museum. It was constructed in typical Kerala-style architecture and is home to many of the largest mural paintings in Kerala. Also, this palace museum at Krishnapuram houses the famous Kayamkulam double-edged sword.
  • Kayamkulam Lake – It is a part of the Kerala backwaters tourist map. The Kayamkulam Boat Race is held on the fourth Saturday of August every year. The famous Chinese fishing nets can be found on the banks of the lagoon.
  • Azhikkal Beach (Aayiram Tengu) and Valiya Azhikkal beach (Kochiyude Jetty) are gaining popularity as tourist locations.
  • Chettikulangara Bhagavathi Temple – Located 7 km north, Vettikodu Nagaraja Temple 7 km east and Oachira Parabrahma Temple 5 km south of the place are some of the religious places to visit. You can enjoy the popular backwaters, Ashtamudi Lake, Ayurvedic treatment, and art and craft fairs.

When in Kayamkulam you should see the one-day annual festival at Bhagavathy Temple includes 1200-year-old rituals like Kuthiyottam and Kettukazcha. These colorful rituals have boys dancing in trance, colossal effigies of horses, decorated chariots and art forms like Padayani and Kolkkali.
