Tirur

Tirur is a town located in Malappuram District of Kerala India .It is one of the most important business center of the district. Tirur is the birthplace of Thunjathu Ramanujan Ezhuthachan, the father of Malayalam language. Tirur has a rich history and is the land of many ancient temples and pilgrims destinations . There is also a beach near this town which is known for its scenic beauty. It is the halting place for the devotees to Kadambuzha Baghavathi Temple.

Some of the famous temples in and around the town are Garudan Kavu , Alathiyur Hanuman Kavu temple , Chamravattom Sastha Temple, Triprangode Siva temple, Vyrankodu Bhagavathi temple , Trikkandiyoor Siva Temple and also Puthiyangadi Mosque .Garudan Kavu is a temple dedicated to Garuda the Bird and is the only temple in India dedicated to a bird which is about 6 km from Tirur.This Garuda Temple is about 1800 years old.

Thirunavaya located on the banks of Bharathapuzha River about 7 km from Tirur which is famous for one of the most ancient festivals Mamankam . Tirur has a railway station which is visited by many train coming towards South India. There are regular buses plying between Tirur and cities like Malappuram, Kozhikode, Ernakulam, Guruvayur, Thrissur and Coimbatore.
