Kumarakom

Stationed at the Kottayam district of Kerala, Kumarakom is one of the important tourist destinations in India. It is located at a distance of about 160 km from Trivandrum and was established as a part of special preservation forest. Unlike other bird sanctuaries, Kumarakom is unique and abundantly rich with landscapes and plethora of bird species. This small town is a paradise with its natural scenic beauty, crystal clear Vembanad Lake and the serene atmosphere literally captivates the visitors.

Tourism sector largely revolves around the backwaters of the Vembanad Lake. The beautiful island has numerous opportunities like yachting, fishing and boating, with panoramic views of the lake.Kumarakom is famous for its backwater tourism it offers amidst a wide variety of flora and fauna. For nature lovers this place is a bliss a paradise as it is full of nature all along . Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is a noted bird sanctuary where many species of migratory birds visit.

Apart this, Boat races are organized every year around Onam time in which thousands of boats participate of different size and shapes. Local in the town belongs to Hinduism and Christianity. The famous Lord Shiva temple is famous for wood carvings. There are a number of hotels and lodges located nearby providing food accommodation facilities. Both local and well continental food varieties are served at many restaurants in Kumarakom.

Kumarakom Weather and Best Time to Visit

Kumarakom enjoys a tropical climate condition all through the year. But the best time to visit is from September to March. During monsoon season, backwater cruising and outdoor activities are not permitted. Summer season is quite hot but ideal for bird watching.
