Mathikettan Shola National Park is the national Park located in the Poopara Village, Idukki District of Kerala State of South India .The name Mathikettan of Mathikettan National Park originates from the Tamil word which literally mean ‘mind confuser’.It covers an area of about 12.82 sq.km. Mathikettan is an idealistic venue for conservation education.The Mathikettan National Park is situated near by other National Parks like Eravikulam and Pampadum Shola National Park. Mathikettan shola was advised as a National Park to protect the wildlife and rich biodiversity of the area. About the history background It was declared as a National Park on Nov 21, 2003.The average annual rainfall ranges between 2000-2700 mm.In the year 1897 Mathikettan National Park area was alarmed as a Reserve Woodland by the Travancore Government .The Mathikettan National Park for protecting its ecological, faunal, floral and geographical wealth and its environments.The National Park is an excellent habitats for a wide variety of mammals, birds, butterflies and reptiles.Its a very largest park because one can forget the path once he enter into the park. The region within the National Park has always been known as a name of Cardamom Hill Reserve.

The Mathikettan Shola National Park is come under control of the Forest Department. Another interesting feature relating to the Mathikettan Shola National Park is that being a part of the Elephant Corridor.The forests of Kerala are home to rare and magnificent wild life like the wild Elephant, Tiger, Panther, Indian Bison and Nilgiri tahr.Apart from this the wildlife population of Mathikettan National Park includes Gaur, Spotted Deer, Sambar, the endangered Giant Grizzled Squirrel, Hanuman Langur, Sloth Bear, Flying Squirrels, jungle cat, wild boar, a variety of monkey species, Leopards, Wolves, Wild Dogs, Civet Cats etc.are habitat here.Mathikettan National Park are also home to a variety of reptiles like King Cobras, Vipers, Pythons, Rat Snakes, Cobras, different varieties of lizards, Turtles and crocodiles etc.

By Train:Kottayam Railway Station is the nearest railway station to reach the park.

By Bus: Kochi Bus stand is the major Bus stand about 130 km and Madurai Bus Stand is about 120 km through main roads.

By Airport:Madurai Airport and Cochin International Airport is the nearest Airport to reach the park.
