Places to See in Thekkady

Thekkady is a famous tourist destination of Kerala State of India also known as heaven for natural spices. Thekkady is located in the Periyar National Park and offers exquisite destination for tourist all over the place. Adventure , trekking, nature lovers , picnic spots and many more are there in or out this beautiful place. Kumily another famous destination is located about 5 km from Thekkady.Some of the famous places to see in Thekkady are –

Periyar National Park– Periyar National park has only one entry point and that is from small village of Thekkady about 4 km from Kumily.Periyar National Park comprising of thick evergreen forest and abundant in wildlife is a breathtaking place for adventure lovers, nature lovers and all the tourists. An artificial Lake Mullaperiyar Dam is located inside the National Park.

Murikkady– It is located about 5 km from Thekkady and is famous for its spice and coffee plantation.

Tribal Heritage Museum– Tribal Communities living here in Periyar organizes a tribal Heritage Programme as a part of which you will be taken by on of the tribal guide to a tribal hamlet and Tribal Heritage Museum where traditional fishing gears, hunting tools and medicanal plants are kept on display. Entry fees for this is 100 Rs.

Mangladevi Temple-Located in dense forest about 14 Km from Thekkady at an altitude of 1337 m above sea level . It is surrounded by lush greenery and is closed throughout the year except during the Chitra Pournami festival.The view from the temple premises is spectacular and one can see part of eastern ghats and some villages from adjacent state of Tamil Nadu.

Chellar Kovil– Chellar kovil is located about 15 km from Kumily and leads to Theni District of Tamil Naidu. This place has a lot of waterfalls and cascades. It is very beautiful and extremely serene.
