Punnathurkotta is an Elephant camp located in Thrissur District of Kerala near Guruvayoor Sree Krishna Temple. The elephants of this temple are kept here and the care is taken here. This place was once the palace for a local ruler of this area. There were 86 elephants housed there, but currently there are about 66 elephants. The elephants are ritual offerings made by the devotees of Lord Guruvayurappa.
Guruvayur Keshavan one of the legendary elephant of Kerala was also housed here. In the complex of this elephant sanctuary there are temples dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Bhagvathy.This place remains open for the tourist from 8.00 AM to 5.30 PM. All the elephants that are housed here are offerings given by the devotees to Sree Guruvayoor Temple. Most of the elephants are trained to participate in major processions and daily temple rituals.
