Chottanikkara Temple

Chottanikkara Temple is one of the most famous temples of Kerala and one of the best architecture layouts of historic times. Temple dedicated to Goddess Bhagvathi is located in Ernakulam District of Kerala India. It is the most important Temple among the 393 shrines spread over 3 Districts of Kerala and coming under the administration of Cochin Devaswom Board. It is one of the most visited shrines of Kerala. People with mental illness visits this temple as it is said that Goddess Bhagawati cures the illness of the devotees.

Chottanikkara Devi is worshiped at the temple, in three different forms: as Saraswati in the morning, draped in white; as Lakshmi at noon, draped in crimson; and as Durga in the evening, decked in blue. Lord Shiva is also worshiped at the temple.On the eastern side of the temple pond stands the Kizhukkavu temple.The idol facing westward is belived to be installed by Villwamangalam Swamiyaar.The Bhadrakaali at Kizhukkavu is believed to exorcise evil spirit from devotees, after conducting bhajanam.

Chottanikara Makam Thozhal is the most famous festival of Kerala. The festival start with bathing the idol of the diety in the pond located on the northern side of the Temple.

By TrainTripunithura Railway Station is the nearest station from here about 7 km away. Ernakulam is the major rail-head located about 17 km from here. Ernakulam Junction is visited by most of the trains and is a major halting point of trains in Kerala.
